Football Children's Cup

The FA Cup inspires even the most casual of football supporters to take an interest in their local team, and for a group of children of Year Six at Primary School in our time, the FA Cup is the inspiration behind Kids Football a geography/football project that is taking this class around the country in a ‘virtual world’ kind of way!.

Having started off by finding out all about Football, the class then moved on to the next city before finding themselves Footballstudying there and finding out about the team and the town - and they really got behind their newly adopted “local” team as they reached the Second Round after sensationally beating their rivals.

From the outset in 1994, our team has enjoyed an overwhelming interest. The number of participants and nationalities ihas grown every year. This year, our fifteenth edition of the tournament, we hope to have another large entry of 120 to 140 teams taking part. Hardly surprising though; the enthusiastic organisers, the large sports accommodation and the programme offer enough opportunites to enjoy the sport as well as the many tourist attractions in our town. The famous holiday resort itself has plenty to offer and the night life has a reputation to live up to. Moreover, all participants can visit the amusement park "Pleasure Beach" at a much lower price and discounts on many of the other main attractions.

We are situated in northwest England, in the most popular seaside holiday town in Great Britain, offering numerous attractions for children of all ages. These attractions vary from bumper cars and games machines to the highest and fastest roller coaster in the world! On Friday evening, there will be an official reception for the team leaders. During this event, the participants have sports betting time to discover the many attractions our city has to offer especially for the youth. The competition starts on Saturday morning. Saturday evening, a visit to the beach or another attraction is a must! Sunday evening gives another great opportunity to visit the vast number of attractions on the coast.

After a more encouraging 2000/01 season where the club finished third, there was an air of optimism as plans were implemented to improve the financial stability of the club.

2001/02 saw the club fail to match the success of the previous season, with a low table finish. The biggest disappointment was drawing against Conference leaders in the FA Cup to a 4th minute injury time goal scored by goalkeeper. He went up to join the play in the dying minutes and scored with a 25 yard volley after the 'stoke had taken a 2-0 lead. A feat that made FA Cup history and footage of which is often replayed on TV. The replay saw the 'Stoke comprehensively defeated and subsequent exploits were well documented by the media.

2002-03 was a season many thought would be the last in the Premier league, with virtually a new squad put together at the start of the season. But the team exceeded all expectations and put in a remarkable set of results to finish a respectable 5th.
